Public Health confirms 4,889 active cases as 110 people battle virus within Niagara Health.
Niagara Region Public Health is reporting an uptick in new COVID-19 cases today.
Officials confirm 387 new cases, but the number is expected to be higher due to limited testing availability and changes to case and contact management practices.
The death toll is unchanged at 447.
There are 110 Niagara Health patients with the virus, 32 of which are unvaccinated.
Sixteen of the patients are in ICUs, and half of the ICU patients are fully immunized.
Throughout Niagara, there are 4,889 active cases, including 1,435 in St. Catharines, 987 in Niagara Falls, 459 in Welland and 444 in Grimsby.
More than 879,000 vaccinations have been administered in Niagara.
About 85.2 percent of local residents aged five and older have one dose and 80.1 percent have two.
