Police say a number of vehicles stolen from Niagara and eventually shipped to Iraq
The recovery of a stolen 2024 Lincoln, taken from Niagara last month, has led to the arrests of three Hamilton teenagers, but also the discovery of 20 other vehicles.
Various police forces, including the NRP, found electronic devices were used to track and steal primarily Lexus and Toyotas from homes, and move them to Hamilton.
Tracking devices on the vehicles were disabled, the vehicles shipped by truck to Montreal, and eventually shipped overseas to Iraq.
Police learned three suspects were connected to roughly 50 vehicle thefts across Niagara and GTA, and yesterday police found 20 stolen vehicles in five Hamilton locations:
- 20 Stolen Vehicles
- $53,000 in currency
- Airsoft Pistol
- Offence related property
They arrested 18-year old Abdulhamid Talip of Hamilton, who was charged with:
- Theft of motor vehicle (2 counts)
- Possession of a device for the purpose of committing theft of a motor vehicle (2 counts)
A 17-year old Hamilton boy is charged with:
- Possession of a device for the purpose of committing theft of a motor vehicle (2 counts)
Police also charged another 17-year old boy from Hamilton with:
- Theft of motor vehicle (2 counts)
- Possession of a device for the purpose of committing theft of a motor vehicle (2 counts)
- Fail to comply with release order
All three have bail hearings today.
