Police have been stepping up enforcement lately over complaints of drivers going through residential areas to avoid the Toronto bound QEW scale.
On Friday, police say they inspected 19 vehicles, and took nine off the road for significant safety concerns.
Out of service defects included load security, suspension problems, brake defects, as well as weight infractions and improper pre-trip inspection reports.
