Niagara has reached a grim COVID-19 milestone.
More than 500 local residents have died from the virus.
Public Health confirming the area's death toll has reached 501, following the deaths of two more people.
Officials also report 112 new infections today.
There are 84 Niagara Health patients battling COVID-19, 61 of which are being treated primarily for the virus.
Fifteen of the patients are in the ICU, and there are seven unvaccinated ICU patients.
Throughout Niagara, there are 2,170 active cases, including 699 in St. Catharines, 408 in Niagara Falls and 247 in Welland.
There are also 24 active outbreaks, including one declared yesterday at Emerald Retirement Residence in Niagara Falls.
More than 998,000 vaccinations have been administered in the region.
To date, about 87 percent of eligible residents have one dose, and 82.8 percent have two.
