May 14th Niagara Falls will be illuminated blue at 10pm to raise awareness for Apraxia of speech. Apraxia is a severe speech disorder where the individual's brain has a hard time telling their lips, jaws and tongue to form words. These individuals spend many years in therapy to learn how to communicate affectively. Some even need physical and occupational therapy because their brains can't tell certain muscle groups how to do simple tasks such as tying their shoes. Many of the volunteers at Apraxia Kids Canada have family members that are affected by apraxia, or are professionals that treat these individuals. We educate and advocate for these individuals by spreading awareness and researching this disorder.
