World Suicide Prevention Day Marked Across the Globe

Over 700,000 deaths a year linked to suicide, according to the World Health Organization.

Today marks World Suicide Prevention Day, a global initiative to raise awareness of suicide and suicide prevention.

The World Health Organization says about one in every 100 deaths is a suicide, which amounts to over 700,000 people each year.

Due to the mental and economic stress brought forth by the pandemic, experts fear the number could be on the rise.

In Niagara, adults seeking help can call the Crisis Outreach and Support Team (COAST) at 1-866-550-5205.

Local children and youth in need of support can call the Pathstone Mental Health 24-hour crisis line at 1-800-263-4944.
