West Nile Detected in Hamilton Mosquitos

Hamilton moves risk level from low to moderate

A batch of mosquitos in Hamilton has tested positive for the West Nile virus.

It's the first time this year that the mosquito-bourne illness has been found in the city.

Hamilton’s Medical Officer of Health has moved its West Nile Virus risk from low to moderate.

Residents are being reminded to protect themselves against mosquito bites by using bug spray containing DEET and avoiding areas where mosquitoes are known to be present.

So far, there have been no reported positive mosquitos in Niagara.
