Developer Applies for Demo Permit

It's a partial demolition permit following condo collapses

A Welland condo developer has applied for a partial demolition permit for a building that collapsed twice during construction.

The City says the builder of the condo, which is located on Prince Charles Drive, has applied for the permit in order to eliminate safety hazards.

The permit is required before any part of the building can be demolished.

The demolition is expected to start on Monday, and the Ministry of Labour has allowed the builder to enter the site.

Upper Vista Condominiums suffered partial collapses to the south side of the building on February 18th and the 26th.

The Ministry of Labour ordered all work to stop after the first incident, and access to the site has been restricted since then.

After the second collapse, the City cordoned off an expanded area around the building.

The trail along the canal in the area remains closed.

The next course of action will be decided after the Ministry finishes its investigation.
