Suspect faces numerous charges, including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
A man from Wainfleet is facing dangerous driving charges after an incident in Pelham.
Around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday night, police received calls about a suspected impaired driver near Victoria Avenue and Webber Road.
When officers arrived at the intersection, a man was found sleeping in a grey 2005 Acura EL.
Police woke the man up, but he refused to get out of the car.
He sped away, narrowly missing the officers and nearby cars.
Officers tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver didn't pull over.
Police say the driver was spotted around 11:20 p.m. near Victoria Avenue and Canboro Road.
Officers blocked the car, and the driver was arrested after a brief struggle.
According to police, the driver showed signs of impairment, and empty beer cans were found in the driver's seat.
Cole Wesley Deboer, 25, was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Flight From Police
- Resist Arrest
- Impaired Operation of a Conveyance
- Impaired Operation/Conveyance - Over 80mgs
He has been released from custody, and a future court date has been set.
The Acura has been impounded, and Deboer has received a 90 day license suspension.
