Wainfleet Council to Establish Emergency Routes in Beach Areas

Wainfleet council has began to outline its plan for the summer months.

At last night's council meeting, council approved traffic control measures in anticipation of tourists and locals visiting area beaches.

These include the establishment of emergency routes on the main roads leading to the beach areas, including Side Road 18, Quarry Road, Park St, and Daley Ditch Road.

Wainfleet Fire Chief Aorgan Alcock is in favour of the move.

"These areas are vital arteries for our Fire Department and all first responders - police and EMS - to be able to get to the scene when lives are at stake and seconds can make the difference between life and death. We’ve got large numbers of people, including children and we need those roads open to us at all times."

'No Stopping' zones will also be enacted on Augustine Road and parts of Quarry Road between Lakeshore and Highway 3.

Council also passed a new pilot program related to parking.

The Resident Parking Permit Program will allow residents to park their cars in special 'permit parking' zones on the west side of Brawn Road and the north side of Lakeshore Road, allowing increased access to popular beaches in the area.

The parking controls take effect immediately, and residents should be able to apply for the permit program in the coming days.
