Update on Pharmacy Vaccine Rollout

The Premier will provide more details this morning

Premier Doug Ford will be joined by Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, Solicitor General Sylvia Jones, and Retired General Rick Hillier this morning at 9:30.

On March 12th, 327 pharmacies began administering the AstraZeneca vaccine to people ages 60 to 64 as part of a provincial pilot program taking place in Toronto, Windsor-Essex and Kingston.

The province has received 194,500 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine so far and says it will extend the rollout to other regions when more doses arrive.

Meantime, Health Canada is confirming the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine is safe and effective in protecting Canadians from COVID-19, and its benefits outweigh the risks.

In a release last night, the agency says it has determined the vaccine has not been associated with an increase in the overall risk of blood clots.
