Two Welland Property Owners Fined For Fire Code Violations

Over $11,000 in fines issued.

Two Welland property owners are facing significant fines for violating the Ontario Fire Code.

The fines were both issued in court on December 9th.

On June 17th, 2019, Welland Fire and Emergency Services (WFES) responded to a complaint at a former bar on King Street.

Officers discovered while the former tavern was vacant, the rooming house above the bar area was not.

The owner was advised of several fire code deficiencies, and an inspection the following January found the problems hadn't been fixed.

The owner was fined $6500, as well as court costs.

Meanwhile, on June 9th of this year, officers discovered no working smoke or carbon monoxide alarms at a West Main Street dwelling.

That owner has been fined $5000 plus court costs.

WFES is reminding property owners to ensure that residences comply with Fire Code regulations.
