Town Seeks to Address Housing Affordability

A survey will tabulate demographics, as people struggle with affordability

If you live in the Town of Lincoln, you may be asked to fill out a survey concerning affordable housing.

Director of Planning Matt Bruder tells us they'd like to find the demographics and needs of the community, during a time when he understands many people can't afford sky-high rental rates.

"They need better programming.  I know there's some rental subsidy programs that are available through Niagara region, but again, those are really focused on those in critical need, and wait list for some of those to receive that subsidized funding can be years long," he says.

He adds part of the solution is to increase housing units.  "I'm going to say there's no smoking gun, or silver bullet, to make things happen in the next month, or year.  But I think it's going to be a progressive improvement over time, and it's going to require some longer term strategic thinking from all levels of government."

The survey is expected to be released in the near future.
