Toronto Hospital Preparing for More Patients

Emergency ward says there's a decline now, but the holiday season can bring more illness

The emergency department at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children is preparing for another wave of respiratory illnesses.

It says a hard-hitting influenza A strain is getting worse, while respiratory syncytial virus, or R-S-V, is on the decline.

The emergency department adds it's currently seeing about 240 children a day now, down from 320 patients a day in past weeks.

But, the holiday season is on its way, which the hospital says is always the busiest time in the emergency department, with expectations the surge in respiratory illnesses could last until March.
