Police seize loaded gun and suspected fentanyl after stopping suspected impaired driver

A traffic stop in Thorold has led to impaired driving, weapon and drug charges.

Just before 1:30 p.m. yesterday, police received a call from a motorist who suspected an impaired driver.

A black Honda Civic was spotted driving erratically on Merritville Highway near Port Robinson Road.

Police stopped the car on Niagara Street near Merritt Street.

Investigators suspected the driver was impaired, and the suspect was arrested.

During the arrest, officers found 0.4 grams of suspected fentanyl and a loaded shotgun.

20 year old Holden Albano of Welland appeared in court earlier today, and has since been remanded into the custody of Ontario Correctional Services.
