Tentative Deal Reached in Education Dispute

Kids in class today, while union not completely happy with deal

Students are in class across Niagara today, and the province, following a weekend wondering if there would be another strike by Ontario education workers.

The union representing 55,000 workers reached a tentative deal yesterday afternoon with the province.

It comes with a dollar-per-hour raise each year, or about 3.59% annually.

However, while members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees are set to vote this week on ratification of the four-year deal, the union says the deal still lacks any details on addressing staffing concerns, and is no different than what the province offered last week.
