Teacher Charged with Sexual Assault

Police say student was sexually involved with teacher

Sexual assault charges have been laid against a 53-year old St. Catharines teacher.

Niagara Regional police tell us in May they were told of an alleged assault at St. Catharines Collegiate Secondary School.

They found information received by the school board indicated a student was sexually involved with a teacher, that teacher was suspended.

In August, police say they went to arrest the man, but found he fled the province.

In October, he was found to be in custody of Calgary police, but now sits in Niagara Regional police custody, waiting for a bail hearing today.

Police say they've charged Lorne John Gocking with 4 counts of sexual assault and 4 counts of sexual exploitation of a young person.

Police confirm they believe there are no other victims.
