More than 80 percent of eligible Canadians vaccinated.

Canada's chief public health officer says there's good news in the country's fight against COVID-19.

New federal modelling was released today, showing a drop in transmission levels.

It also indicates that numbers may continue to decline in the coming weeks.

Dr. Theresa Tam says while efforts to slow the spread of the virus appear to be working, we're not out of the woods just yet.

She says in some regions of Canada, such as Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories, infection rates remain high, causing strains on the healthcare systems.

Canada has seen an average of about 3,700 new COVID-19 infections daily over the past week, which is lower than the 8,000 cases initially projected.

Tam says it's crucial to remain vigilant, and she's urging Canadians to keep Thanksgiving celebrations small.
