Successful First Day at Region's First Mass Vaccination Clinic

Niagara's first mass vaccination clinic is proving to be a success.

The clinic at the MacBain Community Centre in Niagara Falls opened today, and will also be open tomorrow and Saturday.

Niagara Region Public Health expects to administer 1,776 shots by the end of the day Saturday.

Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Mustafa Hirji confirms that about 46 percent of Niagara's 80+ seniors received vaccinations today, with another 39 percent booked to get a dose in the coming weeks.

Hirji is urging eligible recipients to book their shots quickly.

"We encourage anyone 80 years of age or older not yet registered or vaccinated, to book their appointment as soon as possible."

To date, over 44,000 vaccines have been administered in the region, and 10,849 Niagara residents have made an appointment to get a shot.

Niagara residents who are 80 and older can book an appointment by calling 1-888-999-6468, or clicking here
