St. Lawrence Seaway Wraps Up Another Shipping Season

Another shipping season is in the books for the St. Lawrence Seaway.

The season was extended this year under a pilot project, leaving the Welland Canal active until last week.
Sixteen commercial transits were made on the canal between New Year's Eve and January 8th.
Despite the extended season, the St. Lawrence Seaway says three million tonnes less cargo was shipped when compared to 2018.
A 10-year high was hit in 2018 at 41-million tonnes.
This season saw 38-million tonnes shipped; including coal, iron ore, grain and road salt.
During its 60 years, almost three billion tonnes of cargo have moved through the seaway.
