St. Catharines Says Yes to Single, Integrated Niagara Transit System

Follows approval from both Niagara Falls and Fort Erie councils

In a written statement, Mayor Walter Sendzik commends council for making the historic decision.

Sendzik noting "it's clear from those we heard from last night and at Regional Council on November 25th that a regionalized transit service will contribute to the social and economic prosperity of Niagara in many ways."

The mayor adding, "By creating a more efficient system, we can encourage more Niagara residents to utilize transit, helping reduce our carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions."

Both Fort Erie and Niagara Falls councils said yes this week to merging their municipal transit services into one region wide system.

To move the proposed plan forward, a majority of Niagara's municipal councils, representing a majority of Niagara electors, must vote in favour of the plan.
