St. Catharines Kitchen Fire Causes More Than $15,000 in Damage

St. Catharines Fire Chief Jeff McCormick says you should never leave cooking unattended.

Crews had to respond to a kitchen fire in a basement apartment late Monday afternoon.

They say an unattended pot of cooking oil started the blaze.

The resident had left and tried to extinguish the fire when they got back.

They had to be taken to the Hamilton General Hospital burn unit afterwards, after sustaining burns on their hands and face.

The damage is estimated at more than $15,000.
