Porter says she won't seek re-election, in order to focus on work and family.

St. Catharines city councilor Karrie Porter says she won't run for another term.

In a letter to constituents, she says it's time for her to take a pause so she can focus on work in homelessness and her family.

"With two demanding jobs and my children at a critical age, it has become clear that I need to make a change at this time to keep my life and the lives of those who depend on me in a good balance."

Porter, whose home was targeted by vandals last year, says it has been a privilege to serve the residents of Ward 4.

During her term on council, she advocated for the return of development charges, parking fees and community benefits charges, in order to provide more revenue sources for the city.

She also fought for protected bike lanes and multi-use trails for people of all physical abilities, such as the Grantham Rail Trail.

Porter says her decision does not mean she will leave politics for good, and she may consider running again in the future.
