Some Ontario Companies Now Required to Have Electronic Monitoring Policies

Ontario businesses with at least 25 will soon need to let staff know if they are being electronically monitored while on the job.

Many businesses throughout the province will soon have to let employees know if they are being electronically monitored at work. 

Starting today, companies with at least 25 staff members must have a policy outlining how, when and why workers are electronically monitored. 

The province legislated the requirement in April, giving employers six months to draft such a policy. 

According to the Ministry of Labour, workplaces now have 30 days to disclose the policy to staff. 

Examples of electronic monitoring include tracking websites a staff member visits during work hours or monitoring the GPS on delivery vehicles.
