Shortage of Truckers in U.S. Causing Supply Chain Woes for Retailers

Thousands of big rig drivers needed

We have been hearing of shortages caused by widening cracks in the supply chain, and compounding that problem is a shortage of truckers in countries around the world.

The head of the American Trucking Association tells CNN the industry in the U.S. is short 80,000 drivers, a record high.

That represents a 30 percent increase from before the pandemic

Chris Spear says many drivers have retired or quit.

While President Biden ordered two major ports to work 24/7 to clear a backlog of shipping containers, there simply aren’t enough truck drivers to move the freight out

The Democrats are also working on a bill to lower the age for truckers from 21 to 18 so they can drive freight across state lines.
