Sentencing For Hamilton Paramedics Found Guilty in Death of Brock University Student Pushed to January

Crown argues pair should receive sentence of two and a half years.

Two paramedics found guilty for their role in the death of a 19 year old will be sentenced in January.

In December 2017, Yosif Al-Hasnawi was shot outside of the Al-Mustafa Islamic Centre while trying to help an older man who was being harassed by two other people.

Two paramedics, 55 year old Steven Snively and 32 year old Christopher Marchant, were found guilty of not providing the Brock University student the necessities of life.

Both Snively and Marchant testified that they thought he had been hit with a BB gun, but it was actually a .22 calibre handgun.

According to CBC News, the Crown argued yesterday that the pair should be incarcerated for two and a half years, while defense attorney Jeffrey Manishen argued they shouldn't receive any jail time.

Manishen argued they should face a conditional sentence of six to nine months, as well as probation and 100 hours of community service.

While the Crown and defense were slated to meet next month, judge Harrison Arrell pushed sentencing to January in order to give sufficient time to determine a sentence.

The pair will be back in court on January 18th.
