Scotiabank Suspends Sponsorship of Hockey Canada

Scotiabank pausing sponsorship in response to organization's alleged handling of an alleged sexual assault.

Scotiabank is suspending its sponsorship of Hockey Canada.

The bank says the sponsorship will be paused until its confident the organization has taken steps to improve the culture within the sport.

Last week, the federal government froze public funding to the organization in response to its handling of an alleged sexual assault.

While the allegations were never proven in court, a settlement agreement was reached.

Scotiabank President and CEO Brian J. Porter says the company is also pulling all marketing and events at the upcoming World Junior Championships in August.

Last month, Hockey Canada settled a lawsuit after a woman claimed she was sexually assaulted by members of the country's 2018 gold-medal winning world junior hockey team.
