Public Officials Worried About New COVID-19 Subvariant

Canadians urged to get a booster shot if they haven't done so already

Canadian health officials are urging residents to stay up to date on their COVID-19 booster shots.

Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam says the country has seen a rise in the new Kraken subvariant.

However, it's not known if it will become the dominant strain in Canada.

Tam also notes there are still significant pressures on the country's healthcare system, due in large part to a shortage of staff.

She says any surges in illness would have a big impact on hospitals and health workers.

Meanwhile, the National Advisory Committee on Immunization also recommends getting a booster dose to prevent the spread of the disease.
