Public Health Urging Residents to Get Flu Shot

Niagara Region Public Health Resident Physician Dr. Brandon Lew tells us why it's still vital to get a flu shot this year.

With the colder weather upon us, many people are starting to think about booking a flu shot.

We spoke to Dr. Brandon Lew, a Resident Physician at Niagara Region Public Health.

He says as the pandemic continues, it's more important now than ever to get a flu shot.

"The health care system has been really stretched to its limit over the pandemic. And the last thing we need is another respiratory infections like the flu on top of COVID."

Lew says it's safe to get the COVID-19 vaccine and a flu shot at the same time.

He also notes as COVID-19 restrictions continue to loosen, there may be a rise in flu cases as well.

"Definitely as people are starting to get back to some more activities that are resembling what you might be doing this season, that risk of flu is going to be higher than it was compared to last year."
