Province Withdraws Case to Declare CUPE Strike Illegal

Province looking to reverse legislation banning a strike from education workers.

Ontario's labour relations board says the province has withdrawn its application to have a walkout by education workers declared illegal.

Last Friday, workers represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees walked off the job after the province passed legislation that banned a strike and imposed a contract.

The walkout forced hundreds of schools across the province to shut down for two days.

Students returned to school on Tuesday, one day after Premier Doug Ford promised to get rid of the legislation if workers ended their job action.

Both parties have since returned to the bargaining table.
