Province will Not Force Amalgamation on Niagara

No changes will be on the horizon for Niagara's governance. The province announced earlier today, that it will not force amalgamation on Ontario's eight regional governments and Simcoe County.

The province received over 8,500 submissions during the Regional Governance Review.

Special Advisors Michael Fenn and Ken Seiling also attended nine in-person sessions, in order to listen to what individuals and organizations had to say.

Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Steve Clark says the Ford Government will be providing up to $143-million, to help modernize services in those communities.

"Municipalities are the level of government closest to the people, but every community is different - one size doesn't fit all. This investment in communities will support municipal transformation efforts to make sure they are delivering efficient, effective and modern services that best meet the unique needs of their residents."
