Province Supports Greenbelt Foundation

The Ontario government is pledging support to the Greenbelt Foundation.

The province has announced plans to invest $12 million over the next three years in order to improve the Greenbelt in the Golden Horseshoe area.

The funding will be devoted to projects focusing on planting trees to increase natural cover, and maintaining and enhancing green infrastructure.

Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Park Jeff Yurek says the Greenbelt is a natural treasure that needs to be preserved.

"It's important to support the ongoing work of the Greenbelt Foundation so it can protect and enhance this vital area - for the benefit of Ontarians today and for future generations."

The investment will also allow the organization to offer grants, support research and provide information about the Greenbelt.

The Greenbelt includes the Oak Ridges Moraine and the Niagara Escarpment, protected countryside and urban river valleys.
