Health Connect Ontario will allow residents to call or chat online with a registered nurse.

The Ontario government and Ontario Health have launched a new health care tool for residents.

Health Connect Ontario, which will replace the former Telehealth Ontario, will allow people to call 811 or visit the website 24/7 to get health advice and find information.

It will also allow Ontarians to call or chat online with a registered nurse.

Health Minister Christine Elliott says the service will help individuals avoid unnecessary trips to the emergency department and delays in accessing care.

"This new modern service offers more choice and convenience for Ontarians seeking care and information, whether they have a primary care provider or not. It will help keep more people out of hospital and preserve beds for those who need them most."

The service will include a symptom assessment tool and will also help residents get connected to mental health and specialized health care services.

More information on the service can be found here
