Province Investing in Niagara Communities

The provincial government is investing $24 million to support the modernization of over 200 municipalities in Ontario.

A total of 254 projects, including 15 in Niagara, will benefit from the funding, which is being delivered through the Municipal Modernization program. 

A total of $1,481,855 will be divided between 15 local projects: 

  • Township of West Lincoln Independent User Fee Review
  • Town of Pelham and Town of Lincoln Joint Public Library Merger Review
  • Town of Pelham Digitizing Human Resources Performance Management System Review
  • Town of Pelham Corporate Services Function Review
  • Town of Pelham Web-Based Services Review
  • Town of Grimsby Streamlining Development Approvals
  • Town of Grimsby Transportation Engineering Modernization
  • Town of Grimsby Fire Truck Digital Modernization
  • Town of Fort Erie Permits, Planning, and Business Processes Integration
  • Town of Fort Erie Municipal Financial Systems Review
  • Town of Fort Erie Corporate Business Continuity and Business Disaster Recovery Strategy
  • Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake Fleet Service Review
  • City of Port Colborne Information Technology Modernization
  • City of Thorold Modernization and Digitization of Cemetery Services Review
  • City of Welland Building Planning and By-law Enforcement Modernization

Municipalities across the province will use the funding to find ways to digitize, streamline, and/or integrate programs and services with neighboring communities. 

"The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the need to deliver programming more efficiently so that people can access the services they need, when they need them," said Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West.

The province has devoted up to $125 million over four years through the program to help small and rural municipalities modernize services.
