The Ontario government is investing over $17 million to bring high-speed internet to more homes, farms and businesses in eight of Niagara's municipalities.
More Niagara residents will soon have access to high speed internet.
The province says construction is underway to connect over 4,800 homes, farms and businesses in Fort Erie, Grimsby, Lincoln, West Lincoln, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Niagara Falls, Pelham and Wainfleet to reliable high-speed internet service by December 2022.
Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff was on hand for today's announcement in Fenwick.
"The commitment today to expand broadband Internet in Fort Erie, Grimsby, Lincoln, West Lincoln, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Niagara Falls, Pelham and Wainfleet, will soon connect more than 4,800 homes, farms and businesses to reliable high-speed Internet services in December 2022," Oosterhoff noted. " I will keep working with my colleagues, the Minister and Parliamentary Assistants for Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, to invest in rural broadband in Niagara."
The $17.9 million initiative will build three new infrastructure networks in the region.
The Governments of Canada and Ontario, along with the private sector, have invested over $255 million to deliver high-speed internet to over 58,000 households through Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology (SWIFT).
The Ontario government has vowed to bring broadband internet to every region by 2025.
