Province Extends College and University Tuition Freeze

Tuition freeze extended for a third year

The province is extending a tuition freeze for public colleges and universities for a third year.

Colleges and Universities Minister Jill Dunlop says the freeze will continue for Ontario students for the next school year.

Post-secondary schools will have the option to raise fees by up to five percent for students coming from other provinces.

Colleges Ontario has responded by saying they're disappointed they weren't given the option to address pressures brought on by rising costs.

In 2019, the Ford government dropped tuition fees by ten percent, and rates have been frozen ever since.

At the same time, a free tuition program for low-income students was cut.

Dunlop also announced an expert panel has been created to help guide post-secondary financial sustainability.
