Province Expands Rapid Antigen Testing

The province has teamed up with the federal government and the Ontario Chamber of Commerce to increase testing across Ontario.

The COVID-19 Rapid Screening Initiative has been launched to provide free rapid antigen tests to employees of small and medium-sized businesses through local chambers of commerce and other organizations.

The program hopes to help keep workers and their families safe by screening for asymptomatic cases of the virus.

So far, 760,000 rapid test kits have been shipped to 28 chambers, and an additional 50 more have expressed an interest in joining the program.

Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade says this is one step towards ending the economic devastation caused by the pandemic.

"Adding rapid antigen testing to the arsenal of protections for small and medium-sized businesses, especially in regions with hot spots, is one more important step towards keeping businesses open and economic recovery."
