Province Changes Guidance For Long Term Care Homes

Visitors no longer have to mask up while inside a resident's room.

The province has quietly changed its COVID-19 guidance for long term care homes.

While staff, caregivers and visitors still need to wear a mask, masks are no longer required inside a resident's room.

The ministry says the change was made becuase long term care residents miss seeing the faces of their loved ones.

Visitors and caregivers also don't have to participate in active COVID-19 screening, and instead will be asked to self screen for symptoms.

Residents returning from short term absences won't have to test for COVID-19 unless they have symptoms or fail an active screening.

The four-visitor maximum rule for indoor visits has also been removed.

According to the government's website, the new rules took effect on Friday, however, no public announcement was made.
