Province Building New Long-Term Care Beds in Hamilton-Niagara Region

Province adding 329 new and 573 upgraded long-term care beds to homes in the Niagara area.

The Ontario government is expanding six long-term care homes in the Hamilton-Niagara region by adding 387 new and 645 upgraded long-term care beds.

The announcement was made by Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff, who was joined by Long-Term Care Minister Paul Calandra and Niagara Region Chair Jim Bradley.

"Our government has a plan to fix long-term care and a key part of that plan is building modern, safe, and comfortable homes for our seniors," Calandra notes. "When these six homes in the Hamilton-Niagara Region are completed, 1,032 residents will have a new place to call home, near their family and friends."

The allocations will create six new buildings for existing long-term care homes and will increase the overall number of beds.

Beneficiaries include the following locations:

Crescent Park Lodge in Fort Erie, where a new 96-bed home will be built. Construction is expected to start in spring 2023.

West Park Health Center, which will move from St. Catharines to Niagara Falls.

Niagara Long Term Care Residence, where 100 new and 124 redeveloped beds have been allocated.

Wellington Nursing Home in Hamilton, which will receive 58 new and 102 redeveloped beds.

Extendicare in St. Catharines, where 104 new beds will be built, on top of a previous allocation of 152 upgraded beds.

Garden City Manor in St. Catharines, which will get 6 new and 250 redeveloped beds. A new 256 bed home will be built on the current site.
