Province Announces New Supports to Help Students Struggling in School

Parents can now apply for catch-up payments of $200 or $250 per child.

The province has announced more measures to help Ontario students do better in school.

Education Minister Stephen Lecce announced several new initiatives, including new tutoring supports for kids and catch-up payments for parents.

Lecce says two years of disrupted learning has had a negative impact on kids and parents.

"Parents know, because they've seen it first-hand, that the constant disruptions, the union-driven strikes, the global pandemic, all of this has impacted children in our province. It's set them back in reading, writing and math, a trend we're seeing across this country and the western world."

Lecce introduced new supports for struggling students in areas such as math and reading, including an extension of the province's tutoring support program and early reading enhancements for kids in senior kindergarten through grade two.

Meanwhile, parents can now apply for payments of $200 per child to help offset costs associated with supporting children struggling in school.

Parents of special needs kids can get $250 per child.

Families can apply for catch up payments here until March 31st.
