Province Announces More Money for Parents of School Aged Children

New addition to the PC budget previously tabled in April

Parents of school age children will receive a payment from the Ontario government to help students catch up.

The move was announced at Queen's Park yesterday as the Progressive Conservative government re-tabled its budget following the throne speech.

Families of children in school will receive a payment from the government to help with any pandemic-related education costs, under a new, two-year $225 million plan.

Details on the amount per child, who qualifies and how to apply have yet to be released.

The government says those details are expected in the coming days.

The opposition NDP are criticizing the move saying it's diverting dollars away from the public education system and putting them toward private services that won't give students the supports they need.
