Province Announces Further Child Care Supports

The provincial government has announced supports for child care.

Effective March 1st, some recreational providers will be exempt from their three-hour operating limit, in order to improve access to before and after school programs for families.

Additionally, enhanced health and safety precautions in licensed child care settings will be imposed.

This includes requirements for establishments to support contact tracing performed by local health authorities and new guidelines outlining the safe storage of potentially poisonous and hazardous items.

Education Minister Stephen Lecce says the changes are meant to provide peace of mind for parents working during the pandemic.

"We are making child care more affordable for parents, improving safety for children, and reducing red tape for child care operators. Our government appreciates the challenges families are facing these days and we are committed to doing everything we can to reduce their burden."
