Province and Feds Fund Niagara West Projects, Including Splash Pad

Projects will help area recover from the impacts of COVID-19.

The federal and provincial governments are committing over $3 million for 11 projects in the Niagara West area.

The investment is being made through the COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.

Over $2.4 million is coming from the federal government, and more than $604,000 is coming from the province.

Funded projects will include the replacement of the Gibson Street Pedestrian Bridge and a curbside pickup window for the Lincoln Public Library.

It'll also cover the construction of a new splash pad at Centennial Park in Pelham.

The announcement was made by Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff, Niagara Centre MP Vance Badawey and St. Catharines MP Chris Bittle.

Badawey says this is one way the governments are showing support to residents.

"Investments in our municipal infrastructure directly relate to everyone's quality of life and creates the bedrock on which all of our communities are built.  These announcements, as well as related funds announced earlier for Thorold and Welland, ultimately make our cities and towns more resilient and better able to cope with whatever challenges we may face in the future."
