Port Colborne Public Boat Ramp to Re-open Tomorrow

Good news for boaters in Port Colborne.

The public boat ramp will open tomorrow, just in time for the long weekend.

The decision to re-open the ramp was made after City staff consulted with the province and other municipalities within Niagara.

Mayor Bill Steele says the province's vaccination efforts are a factor behind the re-opening.

"With the Stay-at-Home order announced in April and COVID cases increasing across Niagara, especially in Port Colborne, we made the operational decision to keep the public boat ramp closed over the last month. However, with more than 50 per cent of all adults in Niagara Region receiving at least one dose of the vaccine as of last week and COVID cases starting to decrease, it’s time to start gradually opening outdoor recreation slowly and safely."

The ramp will be open to boaters with seasonal passes, but daily passes can also be bought directly at the ramp.

Boaters are asked to follow social distancing guidelines, and only ride with members of their own household.

Starting tomorrow, City staff will be onsite at the ramp from 6:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. to monitor activities and answer questions.
