Port Colborne Experiences Almost 10 Percent Growth in Five Years

City experiences almost 10 percent growth in the past five years, with an additional 13,000 people expected in the next 10 to 15 years.

The latest census data shows Port Colborne has grown by almost ten percent in five years.

The City now has a confirmed population of over 20,000 people.

Mayor Bill Steele says the growth is good news for residents and the region as a whole.

"This growth is a result of this council and past councils laying the groundwork for managed growth for the city. This growth bodes well for our current residents, the region as a whole, and is guiding our strategic plan and associated projects into the future."

A recent budget presentation to council also suggests Port Colborne could see up to 13,000 more new residents in the next 10 to 15 years.

To support even more growth, a development team including key staff has been created to streamline the review and approvals process.

The City also plans to retain a consultant to create an affordable housing strategy.
