Politicians of All Stripes Attend London Vigil for Slain Family

PM says all Canadians mourn and stand with Muslim community

The premier, prime minister, and the leaders of the all three federal opposition parties attended a vigil last night outside the London Muslim Mosque to honour a family left forever changed by a hate-fuelled hit and run.

Prime Minister Trudeau telling the crowd "there are no words that can ease the grief of having three generations of a family murdered in their neighbourhood."

Trudeau says "there are no words that can fix the future of the little boy who has had everything taken away."

On Sunday, the boy, his sister, mother, father and grandmother were run down by a pick up truck while crossing the street.

The nine year old boy was the only survivor.

A statement released to the media by a family spokesperson has identified the deceased as Salman Afzaal, his wife Madiha Salman, their daughter Yumna, and Salman Afzaal's mother.

A 20 year old man is facing murder charges.

The PM told the crowd of thousands who attended the vigil, "Muslims aren't alone, all Canadians mourn with you and stand with you."

Premier Ford also spoke at the vigil saying “This type of racism and terrorism cannot and will not be tolerated. We must stand united against it. It must be condemned in the strongest terms. And those who commit this type of evil must and will be punished to the fullest extent of the law.”
