Police Warning Public to be Wary of Investment Scams

Niagara Regional Police say investment scams often sound too good to be true

The Niagara Regional Police Service is advising the public to be wary of investment scams.

Police say fraudsters often use internet ads, phone calls, emails or compromised social media accounts of people you know to tell you about an "opportunity."

Victims are told they'll get higher than normal returns, but often lose a lot of money.

The NRP notes you should always be suspicious of the following:

  • Unsolicited investment opportunities (even from friends and family)
  • Higher-than-normal returns
  • Fake cryptocurrency websites
  • High pressure tactics
  • Requests for cryptocurrency payments
