Budget will include money for vehicles, robot, and security cameras

New equipment is on the way for Niagara Regional police.

The Standard reports the police services board just passed the $5.3 million capital budget for the force for 2023, which will enable them to buy more police vehicles, a tactical robot and additional security cameras.

The police chief says $2-million will cover replacement vehicles, which they are trying to extend the life of, $935,000 for computer equipment, and there is money set to buy a robot for bomb situations.

He also says 32 new cameras will be put up in high risk areas of the region, that'll cost $200,000 from reserve funds, as well as a provincial grant.
