Mobile crisis rapid response teams starting pilot expansion in Welland and Pelham.

Another mental health service is on the way to Welland and Pelham.

The mobile crisis rapid response team has started a one year pilot project for the two municipalities.

This is made possible by an increase in funding from the Ministry of the Solicitor General.

The program is a partnership between the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Niagara Branch and the Niagara Regional Police Service.

The team de-escalates crisis situations, assesses individuals' mental health and addiction care needs and connect people with local support services.

The program currently serves St. Catharines, Thorold, Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Since 2015, the team has de-escalated over 4,800 mental health calls to 911 and connected more than 4,300 people to services.
