Update: Police still Looking for Owner of Dog Found in Niagara-on-the-Lake

Dog spotted yesterday along edge of Niagara River in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

UPDATE - 1:46 PM Friday, December 2nd

Niagara Parks Police are continuing to look for the owner of the dog. 

Officers teamed up with the fire department and Niagara Helicopters to search the escarpment and the Niagara River, but the owner has not been found.

Parks police are continuing to check parkettes along the Niagara River for outstanding vehicles or people relating to the dog.

Investigators say the animal was found early this morning and was taken to the Lincoln County Humane Society. 

The dog is said to be in good health.

Update 8am, Friday:

Text messages to our newsroom indicate the dog seen wandering in Niagara-on-the-Lake has been found safe.

Niagara Parks Police are on the hunt for a stray dog. 

Around 1:40 this afternoon, the animal was spotted by police patrol near the edge of the Niagara River Corridor in Niagara-on-the-Lake. 

Police say the dog was running alongside the escarpment in a panicked state. 

Officers looked for the owner but were unsuccessful. 

When police tried to look for tags, the dog became aggressive. 

The dog is described as a large "sheepdog" breed with brown and shaggy white fur. 

It was wearing a blue harness, but no leash was attached. 

Parks Police, the Niagara-on-the-Lake Fire Department, Niagara Helicopters and the Humane Society have teamed up to secure the animal.
